ending slavery. restoring lives. a pieceful movement of many voices

Jenna Rivers and Jarah Cooper were moved by a statement made by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. more than 40 years ago.

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

The Salina Central High School seniors took those words to heart when a summer church camp speaker told them slavery and human trafficking were a worldwide epidemic. He told them slavery was a multibillion dollar industry and many of the victims were children, some as young as 4 years old.

"(In Thailand), he said he saw girls walking across a stage wearing chains with numbers on them," said Cooper, 18.

The speaker shocked the girls so much that they decided to do whatever they could to create awareness and raise money for victims of human slave trafficking.

"It's a problem here as well as in other countries," said Rivers, 17.

Last summer, the girls organized a benefit concert for JustOne, a nonprofit organization formed to stimulate greater global awareness for victims of poverty, sex trafficking and social injustice.
