ending slavery. restoring lives. a pieceful movement of many voices

New film out this weekend, TAKEN. Though a Hollywood ending with a strong revenge focus it touches on the levels of the sex trade, aquisition - movement - exploitation, giving attention to the abduction of the victim..

if you see it would love to hear thoughts.

If something this mainstream is produced, I think we should watch it - if for no other reason than to be able to speak intelligently about what was covered. Films like this that touch so deeply on injustice have always twisted something inside of me that usually fails to untwist. I was struck by the scenes which captured the desperate sense of slavery - at the construction site, the girls being auctioned, at the Albanian's enclave. It smelled of desperation, didn't it? I realize that I don't go see a John Grisham flick to understand the true life of an attorney, nor does this film serve to advocate for the cause of ending slavery - its too much of an action flick for that - but for those of us in the know, it does add a sense of urgency. My wife and I went to see it - and we're glad we did.

This movie kept me at the edge of my seat through the whole thing. I agree that this totally opens your eyes to the seriousness of the issue of human trafficking and that it is not limited to a certain people group or social class. This is a good mainstream portrayal on the topic and brings a broader awareness to the issue. Ultimately, more followers of Christ need to become involved that they may help with the recovery of trafficked victims and to bring Truth to a world that is full of lost and broken people. I hope this inspires many to become directly involved in this fight against injustice.

I thought it really reinforced the misconception that trafficking happens in places that aren't here and everyone is safe from it while on American soil. I would recommend that people see it though; it was an interesting film.
