More Than 27 MILLION SLAVES TODAY
Hello,
My name is Mark Svensson, I am co-chairman of the SUNY Rockland Community College Anti-Slavery Committee.
I write to you asking for your consideration and assistance. You may or may not be aware, but today there are more than 27 million slaves in the world- more slaves than at any other point in human history. Too many human beings lack the basic principles of freedom of life, principles which our country was founded on. Our committee has recently begun a letter signing campaign calling for the U.S government to take action on these human atrocities.
Currently, there are several bills enacted in our government that pertain to human trafficking, but human trafficking itself, is just one form of modern-day slavery. Our committee is supporting and urging free citizens to support, H.R 2522, Congressional Commission on the Abolition of Modern-Day Slavery Act, a bill which if passed would establish a commission within our government solely aimed at monitoring and combating world slavery.
MLK once stated, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." I am more than willing to meet and speak with anyone in regards to our current campaign. There is no greater human injustice than slavery, and it is up to the free citizens of the world to be the voice for the millions of victims who have no voice. We are running both a letter signing petition as well as an easy to use online electronic petition in support of this bill.
With a strong support from our local religious community, numerous established Anti-Slavery Organizations, as well as other colleges and universities in New York, it is our goal to achieve over 100,000 signatures in support of this bill to present to our local government officials this coming Decemeber.
I hope you can join our efforts to support this crucial anti-slavery legislation.
