There is a passage from Olive Schreiner's 1883 novel The Story of An African Farm where she describes the isolated existence of the rural Karoo, with its “weird and almost oppressive beauty...the stone walled sheep kraals and kaffer huts.” This cursory and derogatory description of farm worker's dwellings is perhaps the only time they feature in the book. Rather, labourers and their homes are considered part of the farm's natural landscape and as such are rendered invisible and silent…

Just this month, a 15-year-old Long Island girl escaped from her kidnappers who drugged and gang-raped her before selling her for sex. Where did they peddle her? You guessed it: Backpage. In their letter, the AGs referenced a May 2011 incident where a 15-year-old girl was forced to have sex with various men for $100 to $150 by a Dorchester, Mass., man. I WENT on a walk in Manhattan the other day with a young woman who once had to work these streets, hired out by eight pimps while she was just 16 and 17. She pointed out a McDonald’s where pimps sit while monitoring the girls outside, and a building where she had repeatedly been ordered online as if she were a pizza.…

A sex worker's life was the inspiration for leading designers of India to make a strong plea against human trafficking through their fashionwear at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) on Friday.
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) collaborated with international NGO youcanfree.us to raise awareness against human trafficking. The show was inspired by an actual sex worker Alice (name changed), who was rescued by the NGO from GB Road, in the capital.

Could you have possibly imagined that there are 30 million slaves in the world today, more than any other point in human history? Slavery is not limited to the brothels of Thailand or Cambodia, either. A 2011 CNN article estimated that there are 100,000 to 300,000 children between 11 and 14…

"Clarisse Kambire’s nightmare rarely changes. It’s daytime. In a field of cotton plants that burst with purple and white flowers, a man in rags towers over her, a stick raised above his head. Then a voice booms, jerking Clarisse from her slumber and making her heart leap. “Get up!”…
